More Than 20 Years of Restoration
Over the past 20 years, the Severn Riverkeeper Program has helped bring more than $14 million in restoration funding to the Severn River watershed and has advanced 14 major restoration projects throughout the watershed.
These projects are helping repair damaged waterways, reduce pollution, restore habitat, and build a more resilient future for the Severn.
Restoring Nature, Not Just the River
Our approach is rooted in nature-based restoration. Rather than simply treating individual problems, we work to recreate the interconnected ecosystems that once naturally protected and sustained the Severn.
We use the native ecosystems of the Severn River watershed as our model, creating holistic, regenerative restorations designed to support a resilient and thriving river for generations to come.
Our work includes restoration:
Within incised stream valleys, where erosion and altered water flow have damaged natural stream systems.
At stormwater outfalls, where concentrated runoff can carry pollution and sediment directly into local waterways.
Along eroding shorelines, where restoring natural shoreline systems can protect habitat while improving water quality.
By reconnecting streams, wetlands, and valley systems, we can restore the natural functions of these ecosystems and create healthier, more resilient waterways.
